ABOUT THE BOOK
Girl Stuff was published by Penguin Australia in October 2007. Subjects covered include the physical changes of the teen years, skin, hair, food, exercise, body image, clothes, make-up, the teenage brain, feelings, drinking, drugs, family, beliefs, friends, activism and community work, love, sex, school, work, health, money, shopping, safety and advertising. More than 4000 people responded to a website set up by Kaz to collect info, questions, and quotes for the book.  The editor, Lesley Dunt, was knee-deep in about 180,000 words, which were shaped into the final book.  Check out the final result here

Girl Stuff has been ‘short-listed’ for the Children’s Book Council of the Year Information Book of the Year (the Eve Pownall Award) to be announced in August 2008.

Girl Stuff has also been selected as one of the 50 “Books You Can’t Put Down” for this year’s Books Alive campaign, a “federal government initiative that aims to encourage all Australians to experience the joys of reading. Every year, Books Alive runs a month-long, nationwide campaign to ignite the country’s passion for books and to make it easier to choose a really great read. This year’s promotion will include a new-look guide, 2 million copies of which will be distributed in News Ltd newspapers around the country on Sunday July 27”.

Kaz's best-seller has been nominated for an amazing 3 separate nominations for this year's Australian Book Industry Association Awards.

Girl Stuff garnered nominations in the following categories:
Marketing Campaign of the Year (congratulations Penguin marketing department and senior publicity director Anyez Lindop)
General Non-Fiction Book of the Year
Book of the Year.


The award winners will be announced on June 15.

Girl Stuff has also been short-listed for the Australian Booksellers' Association Book of the Year 2008 Award to be announced on June 16.

Congratulations to Kaz Cooke and the designer of her book 'Girl Stuff', Adam Laszczuk from the Pengiun Design Studio, for winning "Best Designed Children's Non-Fiction book" at the 56th Australian Publishers Association Book Design Awards.
